WashDrone provides training in safe and professional drone operations

On September 9, WashDrone held a comprehensive training day. Our pilots and operational crew practiced every aspect of a professional drone operation: from preparation and task assignment to practical flight exercises, emergency procedures, and post-mission debriefing.

Working Safely Together During Cleaning Operations

A key part of the training day focused on WashDrone’s specific operations. Among other things, the crew practiced setting up and organizing the operation, using the trailer and cleaning equipment, positioning team members, and communication between the various operational roles.

Unusual situations were also discussed in detail. These include a stuck or kinked hose, loss of water pressure, problems with couplings, or someone unexpectedly entering the cordoned-off work area. In such situations, everyone involved must know exactly what to do and communicate with each other quickly and clearly.

Flight Skills and Emergency Scenarios

During the practical portion of the training, the pilots practiced various flight maneuvers and controlled landings. They also trained for situations where GPS support is lost. In such cases, a drone may drift off course, requiring the pilot to manually correct its course, bring it back under control, and land it safely.

Several unexpected and emergency situations were also simulated. The crew practiced not only safely aborting a flight, but also the steps that follow. These include securing the area, assigning tasks, notifying the relevant parties, and carefully documenting the incident.

Preparation and Registration in DroneDeck

A safe drone operation begins well before the drone takes off. That is why the participants also went through the entire workflow in DroneDeck. This includes documenting the flight plan, the crew, the drone used, risks, control measures, checklists, and the final safety check.

After the flight, the evaluation, any deviations, and areas for improvement are recorded. In this way, real-world experiences are used to further improve future operations.

Training Under Nighttime Conditions

The training day concluded with theory and practical exercises for flying in the dark. Nighttime drone operations require extra attention to visibility, orientation, lighting, communication, and situational awareness.

During the practical flight sessions, the participants practiced flying in different directions, returning to base, performing controlled landings, and responding to a loss of positioning assistance. Here, too, teamwork and safe procedures were key.

Safety Requires Ongoing Training

Technical skill is important, but safe drone operations depend entirely on well-prepared personnel and clear procedures. By regularly training for realistic scenarios, our crew stays sharp, and team members know exactly what is expected of them even in unexpected circumstances.

The training day concluded with a group evaluation. The results and areas for improvement were documented for each participant so that we can continue to focus on professional competence, safety, and the professional execution of our drone operations.
